Lookee! I've hit row 100 and maybe am beginning to get the feel of this. Nah... who am I kidding? I have one of those LoRan magnetic boards with a LoRan line magnifier. On one side of the board I have magneted a copy of Uli's chart, and on the other side Morgan's pattern rewrite. Both are all ratty and tattered from being yanked out of my bag and stuff in again, but I'd be so LOST without them both. (See my July 15 entry for the links to these very helpful sites!) I can't start a row without double-checking.... "What color is this row again?" "What pattern row am I on?" I must look like such a knitting nerd with stitch markers in my teeth (God, I hope I don't choke on on of those) and a stubby pencil tucked behind my ear. And I can't take my eyes off that LoRan board for a single 8-stitch section. Pitiable. Maybe that's why I bought the yarn to make two more of these... 'cause I want to eventually get to the point where it just dances off my needles! (Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?)
In the meantime, I needed a mindless knitting project to haul around with me to places like doctor's office waiting rooms. (Its summertime, time to hit all the docs in town, I guess.) Yesterday was testing at the dojang, and I just cannot sit and watch my friends and their kids test for belt levels in Tae Kwon Do without something in my hands. (I would have made an excellent smoker... uck.) So, while they were all memorizing forms and reviewing kicking and self-defense techniques yesterday morning, I was at home with a HUGE bag of odds and ends and leftover yarns. I started cutting randomly long-ish pieces and took a whole booga bag filled with little yarn strings with me to testing, where I could watch the proceedings and quietly wind my snippets into a great big ball.
Then last night, too pooped to concentrate on Charlotte and a little bit sauced from a glass of white zin at Shabbat dinner, I picked up a pair of 17's and just cast on until I ran out of room. Its all scrunched up on the needles, because I'm doing it (whatever it is... a scarf? a shawl? a ruana? and what is a ruana, anyway?) lengthwise, but don't the colors look marvelous? Its my cheapy version of Prism's STUFF, I guess. Knitter's Review calls it Magic Ball Knitting.
What a great idea. I'll be watching to see how the ruana/scarf/shawl/whatever turns out.
