This is embarrassing! My last post was an apology for not having posted in a week, and here it is like more than two weeks later and I still haven't posted! What the heck have I been up to?
Well, we did finally get a few sunny, clear days, so I dragged the kids to the JCC pool a couple of times. I even went in the water and swam a little myself one day. Those Olympics are so inspiring, aren't they?
And, yes I've been watching the Olympics! Living in Buffalo, right across from Canada, means we get not only American television, but Canadian television as well, so there are several Olympics viewing options. Of course, I cannot wait until Olympics Tae Kwon Do begins... this Thursday! I need to go buy some blank VHS tapes so I can record the matches to view later. Let's hope my rickety, old VCR hangs in there.
I spent much of last week doing laundry. It began with the 5 or more loads of dirty junk that came home from sleepaway camp with Anna (the 17-yo.) But, it continued with all the dirty clothes, sheets, towels, etc. that she had strewn, stashed, and stacked in her bedroom. I stopped counting how many loads it was. ALL of it is now neatly folded, sorted, and either in her dresser or hung in her closet. I out-organized myself!
In knitting news, I received my copy of Cat Bordhi's amazing new book, Treasury of Magical Knitting, and then, of course, had to order a 60" circular needle from Jimmy Beans Wool. I'm not the best mathematical mind, although I did better in geometry than in any other kind of math (although it may just have been because in 9th grade I had Mr. Hobaugh for Geometry and he was NICER than any of my other math teachers,) but I can read directions, so I cast on for a basic moebius scarf applying her method to a skein of lovely cherry red Colinette Giotto. It is such a strange and different approach that I doubted I was doing it right! I even posted to knitlist asking for help... and guess what? More than one knitlister responded telling me that I was doing just fine. (Thank you knitlisters!) Yes, even though I cast on 100 stitches, I now have 200. And the knitting at the bottom of my piece looks like purl, while the knitting at the top looks like knit. And it is all a continuous series of knit stitches. After several rows I finally understand that, yes, I am knitting from the center spine outwards! Will have to take pics.
It was a welcome change from Charlotte, which is bogging me down. First of all, I STILL can't do it without checking every single row against the pattern, so I'm sitting with a pillow or a felted wool knitting bag resting on my legs so that the pattern on its magnet board is propped up where I can see it. And, with it not being THAT hot out, the A/C isn't on, but it is still warm-ish and somewhat humid, so that makes things a little bit uncomfortable. And secondly, this colorway is just not nearly as attractive as so many that I've seen pictured on the web. I did buy several skeins of Koigu in purples and oranges and other lovely, bright colors, so that if I ever do finish this one and decide to do another, it will be vibrant and wonderful, but this one's colors are kinda dull and pale and dreary. And thirdly, it takes a darn long time! I find myself stopping and starting, okay, I'm knitting while I'm watching the Olympics, so I'm taking my eyes off my knitting to see the divers dive or the gymnasts gym... and not wanting to make any more mistakes than I already have, that means I don't dare knit a stitch without looking... so its s-l-o-w going... I need to take pics and share them here!
