I spent part of the morning at Reszel Middle School, the school where I did my first student teaching placement during September and October of 2003. I was in a 6th grade English classroom, and as part of teaching the students how to write a letter-to-the-editor, I set up a rather involved bulletin board which briefly explained the process of writing a letter-to-the-editor, and also was used to keep track (by way of tiny, laminated name tags and tiny, little pins) of who in which of the 4 sections that I taught had completed what part of the task so far.
(Hmmm... I hope these pics come up. Typepad is having some issues the past few days as they upgrade hardware or something. If you can't see the pics, just check back later in the day. Thanks!)
I SO enjoyed teaching 6th grade English and did SO well there and felt SO much like a professional. Every day was wonderful there. My second placement was in a first grade classroom at a local elementary school and although the kids were precious and my cooperating teacher was TERRIFIC, I just never felt "at home" there the way I had at Reszel. Anyway, this morning, I (finally!) got back up there to undo the bulletin board and pick up my Newspaper Learning Center. Unfortunately, my cooperating teacher was out and the kids were taking state exams this morning, but I did get such a warm welcome from everyone I saw (students, faculty, and staff) and I got done what I had to and I even stayed for a quickie lunch in the library with some of my favorite teachers. Thank you Reszel!!
The whole experience gave me a real good shot in the arm to get me really going on all of these job applications. (And, yes, I have done several of them in the past week, but I need to keep at it.)
What else is good? I've now lost 12 pounds on South Beach. Took me two whole months, and since my goal is more like losing 50 or 60 pounds, I know it is just a drop in the bucket. But, still, its the first move in the right direction that I've had in a long time and it hasn't been HORRRIBLY painful. Clothes are fitting better and even too roomy (they were BIG clothes,) and yesterday when I went to Tae Kwon Do, I was jumping and kicking like I hadn't felt like in a long time.
J-Daughter, my youngest, has her very first swim meet today! Its her middle school against another middle school in the district. I can't be there right when it starts because I have to take her brother to the dentist, but I will get there not too late, and I hope she has a good time and is pleased with her performance.
Knitting? Well, I am ALMOST done with my pattern-knit narrow plum colored scarf. Just in time for Springtime! (Who am I kidding, this is BUFFALO. No matter how lovely and sunny and warm, even up to 56 degrees yesterday, it gets for a day or so, it is still MARCH. It won't really be Spring for another 5-6 weeks.)
Has anyone ever made the ISIS STOLE from The Knitting Goddess? Just wondering...
